May 11th, 2015
It is with much excitement we are wrapping up the 2014-2015 school year. I hope your kids had a wonderful year and are looking forward to enjoying a restful summer with family and friends. As you could imagine, my recent moving from Sioux City, IA to New Hampton has kept me incredibly busy but nothing but enjoyable. In the past months, I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet with teachers, staff, parents, community members and students to listen to feedback and to have them share their expertise and working knowledge of the school. I am overwhelmed by the warm welcome. While it would be impossible to share all of my findings, I do wish to present one emerging theme. From all my conversations, it is evident that the greatest strength of the New Hampton Elementary lies in its supportive, dedicated and caring teachers and staff, who work tirelessly on a daily basis in the best interest of kids. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be a part of this team and to continue to work within a community that I have grown to love, and I look forward to another fantastic year. During the summer and over the course of the next year, the staff and I will be at work getting to know your kids, and continuing the following district and school-wide initiatives: creating common and/or equivalent assessments across all grade levels and disciplines; collaboratively looking at student work and progress to inform our instruction and curriculum revisions; and most importantly, adhering to our shared belief that what makes our school great is what occurs within the walls of our classrooms. I remain committed to supporting and promoting the best teaching practices across all grades and levels, such as active student learning, problem-solving and critical thinking, creativity, inter and intrapersonal reflection, effective communication, reading and collaboration in all classes. This work is ongoing and defines us as a New Hampton Elementary community. With this primary focus on instruction and student learning, we will continue to ensure that we offer the best opportunities and learning experiences for all students to be successful and to be well prepared to meet any challenge. In closing, we at the New Hampton Elementary School remain dedicated to advancing your child's academic, social and personal development in a supportive, safe and challenging learning environment. We welcome your active participation in your child's education, and we urge you to be proactive in communicating with our administration, counselors and teachers, and, as time allows, to volunteer in our various programs and events. By working together, we will ensure success for your child.

Note for summer: During the summer months, we will not be participating in a reading program over the summer, we are looking at revising what has been done in the previous years and put in place something for the summer of 2016. The kids are highly encouraged to work on the Fast ForWord program https://ondemand4.scilearn.com/slc/learner?tenantId=4838 , the students should remember their login however you can always email their teacher if they can’t remember. Also, expect to see a letter from me in July with school calendar of elementary dates, school supply list changes and other items that you will need for the the 2015-2016 school year. School start date for all kids is August 24th and Registration is August 10th from 10-7pm in Elem/MS cafeteria.
