Jerzi Gitch and Bailey Kriener have initiated a new project with our school Rotary Interact Club. They are offering tutoring services during their 4th hour study hall on days that work with their schedules. Here is Jerzi listening to a student read.

Spanish II is playing Write, Draw, Pass. It is a version of Telestrations. They are practicing recalling their class story called El hombre despreciable ( The Despicable Man). The ending results were funny with some spot on.
6th grade students are learning about Egyptian cultures and utopias and had a visitor today, Tammy Robinson was able to come in and talk to students about New Hampton. Students listened and asked great questions as they get ready to create their own utopian societies.
Advanced Foods Class just finished a unit about Beverages. Here are some pictures of the trending "Cocoa Bombs" that they made for hot chocolate. The Beverage Unit they learned about tea, different types of water, coffee, hot chocolate, mulled fruit drinks, and more.
NHHS Family & Consumer Science has two sections of Foods II this semester. Their first lab and unit was learning about the different types of Vegetarians.
The class did a Vegetarian Lab and to their surprise was quite tasty!
We have two new classes of 7th Grade F.C.S. (Family & Consumer Science) for the second semester. 41 new students to learn their names! Today we learned about Food and Kitchen Safety. The students acted out skits, that they wrote, on unsafe kitchen and food safety habits. The skits included: having a cat on the table while eating, finding a band-aid in their meal, to a microwave exploding or starting on fire due to improper usage. "They were very creative!" said Mrs. Schmitt
TK students creating in the innovation lab! The lesson started off with a story then they went into the innovation lab to try to build the biggest snowman! They worked on building, counting, teamwork, and perseverance!

Erika (Anderson) Billerbeck currently works for the Department of Natural Resources. She wrote a column in Iowa Outdoors Magazine for several years and recently published a book titled Wildlife Sentinel.

What a fantastic group of 4th graders that shared a focus on perseverance at our Elementary TRIBE Assembly this morning! We love to recognize students showing a great effort in all areas and are proud to share our January TRIBE winners!
There are 20 students in Mrs. Schmitt's Advanced Foods Class! We are finishing a Beverage unit where the students learned about coffee, tea, and other drinks. They made homemade hot chocolate mix (Mrs. Schmitt's mom's recipe), hot cocoa "bombs" that are a current food craze and prepared smoothies for a contest.
Advanced Foods Class had a Smoothie contest. They had to use milk or yogurt and fresh or frozen fruit. They were judged on nutrition, taste/flavor, unique ingredient combination, and appearance/ presentation. Thank you to our three judges: Mrs. Maas, Mrs. Popken, and Mr. Manson. (Mr. Manson does so much every day and he covered in the office, so the students took in a cart with the smoothies and rubric for judging.) A representative from each lab group also explained to the judges about their ingredients and answered any questions.
Winners: 1st place Peach, 2nd place Raspberry Mango Sunrise, and 3rd place was Blueberry Crumble. Thank you to the judges for making time for our amazing students.
