We need your help, parents! The Department of Ed has given us an extension to try and get to a 50% free and reduced rate to offer Summer Meals in New Hampton. If you have not already filled out an application for Free and Reduced Meals, I beg you to do so. We are literally just 11 students away from being able to offer FREE Summer Meals at the Elementary School for ALL children ages 1-18!

It's Youth Apprenticeship Week!! Youth Apprenticeship Week (YAW) is a nationwide celebration that highlights the benefits and value of Registered Apprenticeship program opportunities for youth, ages 16–24. New Hampton "Our school began the Apprenticeship Program exploration this Fall. Our community is looking for skilled workers, and we are looking for a way to help meet the needs of our local industries and expand student skills. We approached a company as they are always looking for welders, and we have several students interested in that field. With a new Industrial Technology teacher, we explored possibilities to create an apprenticeship program with the classes we were currently offering. By November, Iowa Works was able to help us create this program, and we began looking for the right candidate. After interviewing students interested, the company decided to hire one of our students as a trial. It has been very successful as our student is doing well on the job and making academic gains in the school working toward successful graduation next year. Working with the business is important, and there is a lot of communication back and forth as we learn together. We are hopeful to add another position potentially for next school year as well. The success of this first RA has begun discussions in other areas around our community."

48 Fourth Graders and 44 High School students wrote PenPal letters back and forth this year for our third annual year. They ended the year by sharing lunch and conversation at the elementary school. Thank you to Kyra Lewis and the HS Interact students who helped make all this possible!

7th Grade FCS did their last lab of making and baking banana bread with chocolate chips. The classroom smelled just like my grandmother's house. Actually the recipe was from Mrs. Schmitt's Grandma Medberry! The students did well with this difficult lab and they will enjoy eating their quick bread tomorrow.

For the last four days Mr Rude has been in Washington DC at the Ford’s Theater National Oratory Fellowship Retreat. This is the program that our 8th graders participate in when they do their speeches. Yesterday, Mr. Rude was the closing emcee on the stage at Ford’s Theater.
