7th Grade FCS Classes made five kinds of smoothies with fresh and nutritious ingredients. They learned how to use a blender and how to mix and taste before serving the smoothies, to see if they needed to add anything for more flavor. Nutritious smoothies are great for a snack or breakfast.

With the projected weather forecast temperatures along with the high NW Winds, it does not appear that these conditions would be good for athletes to run in. With that said, Mason City is cancelling the Girls Track meet for April 2nd.

Our entire school is getting ready to administer an annual school climate and culture survey called Conditions for Learning to students in grades 3-12 This survey administration is required by the state’s plan to meet a federal law called the Every Student Succeeds Act. Our school will conduct the survey on the week of April 15th. All Iowa public school districts will use the Conditions for Learning Survey (Survey) to improve safety, student engagement and the overall learning environment so that all Iowa students have optimum conditions for learning. Our work to improve safety, student engagement and the overall learning environment will have a lasting impact on the future. Please review the attached letters. Mrs. Schmitt spent three days at the FCCLA State Conference in Cedar Rapids. Sunday and Monday Schmitt judged the Culinary Competition; each day was four hours of judging. Her student competed on Sunday in the Baking & Pastry Competition. The rest of the conference Mrs. Schmitt was able to learn about many of the competitions like: cake decorating and food truck competition. "My hope is for next year for all of our FCCLA students to compete in a class either for Star Events (which qualify to compete at Nationals) and Iowa Events. One of the speakers was Nash Roe (a 15 year old entrepreneur) owning four baking companies. He was an impressive speaker. Mrs. Schmitt also toured the Paramount Theater with its rich history. Many Hospitality & Tourism careers were the focus during the tour. We are just starting our FCCLA chapter and each year it will grow big and better!
