Senior Piper Hackman & Junior Brenna Throndson were recognized and honored at the Large Group Speech All-State Festival at Iowa State University on Saturday, February 21. They were awarded an All-State nomination in the category of Group Improv. Congratulations Piper and Brenna!
To end our unit on Mexico in the Cooking Around the World class, we pre-ordered at "Cinco De Mayo Mexican Restaurant." The food was very authentic. Then we walked to Daisy's Mexican Grocery Store and purchased some items that you cannot find anywhere else. The students were so well-behaved too!
Knife cutting skills continue in 7th FCS class. Last week they cut up vegetables and made a dip. They learned how to peel and slice. How to make a vegetable safe to cut so it does not roll. This week they made veggie cars to hone their knife skills.
The fourth-grade classes were visited by Joanne Tupper, our Ag. Partner in Education. She provided information about their pork operation and described how math is used on a daily basis. They learned about the different types of meat that we can get from pigs. She also brought two piglets for the students to pet.

All of the second graders had dental education in the auditorium yesterday! 🦷 They learned all about their molars, how to properly care for their teeth, and even went home with a fun goodie bag at the end!
The Cooking Around the World class has been learning about Mexico's people, culture, and food. Here are some pictures from their Mexican Food Lab of fajitas, mini tacos, and chilaquiles verdes.
THANK YOU to everyone who ordered strawberries and supported our students. Mrs. Schmitt made some of her strawberries into fresh strawberry pie. A suggestion to keep your strawberries fresher: store them in a Mason jar; it really works.
If you did not pick up your strawberries and / or butter braids last night, then please pick them up TONIGHT before 5:30 pm in the FCS room (the old cafeteria). Park in front of the high school and come in the front door and turn left. Thank you!

BINGO fun for Outfly in the Middle School yesterday!
Today fourth graders listened to Mr. Pagel and Ms. Schwickerath read the Hershey's Fraction book in math class. A full-size Hershey's chocolate candy bar was provided to each student as a practical teaching tool to help them understand the idea of equivalent fractions. The students also talked about how to multiply or divide to produce equivalent fractions after splitting the candy bar to represent the fraction in question.
