Thank you,
It was a late night practicing for FCCLA State Competition. The 3 1/2 hour Baking & Pastry competition will be coming up soon for senior Sydney Hyer. Sydney will represent NHHS in our first competition in FCCLA; as we are a new chapter. If you see Sydney at school, send good luck wishes! You got this!
Both sections of 7th F.C.S. (Family & Consumer Science) classes had successful pancake labs. One student commented, "I didn't know you could make pancakes without a box mix?" They are just learning their chef skills, team work, and time management for their beginning labs. "I would say they are doing a great job!" Mrs. Schmitt
Part of our Fruit Unit included taste-testing tropical fruits. The students learned how to cut a pineapple, mango, and a coconut. The fresh pineapple & mango were amazing; the coconut, the students thought, tastes better from a bag already shredded. The students learned how to select and store fruit, location their fruits are produced, the eight categories of fruit and so much more.
Big thank you to the CWC for hosting the 4th grade Q3 TRIBE celebration!
Thank you to the New Hampton Public Library for their STEM project of rocket launchers! Mrs. Lewis’ class had a blast! Thank you for being our Partner in Education! Here is a video clip to watch.

Our local chapter of National Honor Society delivered 16 tie-blankets this week to MercyOne New Hampton Medical Center. Pictured from are NHS Treasurer Marshall Zeien, NHS President Leander Reicks, NHS Vice President Grace Maloy, and MercyOne PR Manager Jenny Monteith.

Second grade students in Mrs. Heeren's class and Ms. Schmitt's class read to residents at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. They had fun sharing poems about leprechauns and spring weather! All four second grade classes made door decorations for the residents to enjoy.

Emma Benoit spoke to New Hampton High School students about suicide prevention and her surviving a suicide attempt in 2017, the summer before her senior year in high school.
After a suicide attempt left 16-year-old varsity cheerleader Emma Benoit paralyzed, she turned her painful experience into a mission to help other young people find hope and stay alive. While managing the challenges of her physical and mental health recovery, Emma strives to bring attention to the sobering reality that 20 young people die by suicide every day in the United States.
After students viewed a portion of the documentary, Emma shared her story with students and staff. You can watch the entire film at My Ascension Documentary.

Sydney Hyer will be competing for NHHS at FCCLA's State Competition in the Baking & Pastry Star Events on Sunday, March 17th. Here are some pictures of practicing after school making a Pate a Choux: Cream Puffs with Chantilly Cream; all from scratch

Dynamic Dairy Carnival
"Students “Mooved” through ten stations learning about dairy nutrition."
Mrs. Schmitt’s Foods II high school students decided to create an event for the New Hampton preschoolers for their PBL (Project Based Learning Project). “How do you teach preschool students about dairy?” The two-sections of Foods II students came up with a Dairy Carnival as a way for students to learn about dairy nutrition.
The Dairy Carnival had 33 high school students, 55 preschoolers, and 22 staff; totaling 110 people at the event! Jessica Rochford from the Chickasaw Farm Bureau’s Outreach Coordinator donated dairy coloring books and her time to help during the event. The students “Mooved” through 10 stations learning about dairy nutrition. The Foods II students came up with a carnival game about dairy nutrition, name of the game on a poster, skills learned, materials needed, and rules of the game. Prizes were given at each station donated by Midwest Dairy Supplies and some were purchased with grant money.
Let the fun begin! The students were asked different questions at each station then they were able to play the games and get a prize. The stations were: Get the Scoop (ice cream cone ping pong), Guess the Gadget (matching antique dairy gadgets with the picture they were used for), Milk the Cow (students were able to milk a cow’s udder to get the milk out), Tic Tac Toe Dairy (when answered correctly they placed an X or O), Cow Craft (decorated a Holstein, Beef Short-Horn, & Highland cows), Dairy Taste-Testing (vanilla & chocolate pudding, smoothies, & cheese curds), Pin the Tail on the Cow (able to play after answer questions about dairy nutrition), Milk Toss (tossed a bean bag at dairy jugs after answering questions), Race to the Creamery (a car mat with three creamery trucks and at every stop sign you needed to answer a question), and Spot the Dairy (you chose the dairy products out of the toy food assortment).
“This was a fun way for the preschoolers to learn about dairy and the high school students were amazing interacting so kindly with the little ones. They don’t realize they are learning by teaching!” stated Mrs. Schmitt. “The Dairy Taste-Testing and the cool cow sunglasses were the biggest hit, but I think seeing all of the smiling faces learning was “Moosic” to my ears.” said Mrs. Schmitt. I’m

There will be a representative from NICC at our Career/Opportunity Fair next week on March 12 that will be available to help with any FAFSA questions. Students do not need to be planning to attend NICC in order to receive assistance with this. You WILL need to have your FSA ID created/approved before they can assist you, so if you do not have this done already, you can do that here: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch
Come see what the Family and Consumer Sciences' Courses have to offer. The class is so much fun!!
