FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) students have started their cake decorating for a state competition. The theme is "Reach for the Stars" and the students will decorate Styrofoam cakes with buttercream icing and homemade fondant. Mrs. Schmitt will reveal the end cakes in a couple of weeks before the students will go to the state competition. The students will also write a paper accompanying their cake designs.

Our snow day on Wednesday threw a wrench into our plans, but the Foods II students rolled with it. The students changed the Fruit/Vegetable lab to a one day lab. Mrs. Schmitt bought the groceries last Thursday night and the students made their food on Friday. Mrs. Schmitt thought they were amazed that fruits and vegetables taste so good when prepared correctly.

Good luck to our varsity girls track & field team. They are going to travel to Wartburg College in Waverly for their track meet. The meet will start at 2:00 pm this afternoon. Go Chickasaws!! You can pay at the door. The price of admission is $7.00 for K-Adults. Card only. You can purchase tickets ahead of time on Bound. The tickets at the gate will be $8.00.

New Hampton High School will once again be hosting grade-level parent meetings the first night of Parent/Teacher Conferences, on March 11. We will be doing Sophomore and Junior meetings this time, as we did Freshman and Senior meetings in the Fall. The Sophomore parent meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. and the Junior meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. These are not mandatory, but will include some good information on what your child should be doing now, things for their upcoming school year, etc. If you have attended in the past, the information will be very similar, but you are welcome to attend again if you'd like a refresher. Meetings will be held in the FCS room (the old HS cafeteria) on the upper level of the high school.

7th graders enjoyed making pancakes with their amazing sub, Jill Glenn. "Thank you for taking pictures during their food labs," said Mrs. Schmitt.

Cooking Around the World Class made homemade pasta to use in a pasta dish after covering the country of Italy. They did an excellent job! We listened to Italian opera music; which the students didn't care for.

Foods II Classes covered their fruit unit and did a little tasting of some tropical and exotic fruit. The students learned how to cut open a coconut, pineapple, and dragonfruit. The students enjoyed tasting the fruit and learned that cutting your own fresh fruit saves you money and tastes better.

Thank you to everyone in the community who ordered strawberries and made our fundraiser a huge success. Last year we ordered 224 flats and this year we ordered 271 flats. The profits will go towards the FCS and FCCLA departments. The strawberries were delicious! Mrs. Schmitt made fresh strawberry pie and froze them to make strawberry jam!
