Our Fourth Grade-Ag. Partner in Education-Joanne Tupper visited the fourth grade classes. She shared information about their Pork enterprise and how they use math everyday in their pork production. The students were also able to pet the two piglets she brought with her. The students learned about the various cuts of meat that the pork provides us. It helped the students understand why math is so important.

Cooking Around the World was covering Russia and Ukraine. The students made Pysanka Eggs just in time for Easter. Pysanka means "to write" in Ukrainian and they give eggs to each other and also on gravesites. Every symbol and color has a meaning and it is a rare Folk Art that Mrs. Schmitt has taught classes on for NICC. The pictures show part of the process using a kistka (writing tool that holds beeswax) The students also made Chicken Kiev from Russia as their food lab. It has been a very interesting class learning about cultures, food, and customs all around the world. They are off to Asia (Japan, China, India) next.
