Mrs. Heeren's class started a new Science unit called Changes today. Students described properties of their solid(an effervescent tablet) and their liquid(water). Then they were asked to observe and write about what happened when they put the solid into the liquid. Students recorded their findings in their Science notebooks.
This year the New Hampton FFA solds 376 mums with a lot of great help from Ace Schueth Hardware Stores in New Hampton and Charles City. Doug Schueth is presenting checks to the chapter treasurer Kandice Eggerichs for the mums that were sold in their stores. All of the proceeds from the sale were returned to the chapter for future projects. Thank you to Doug and Jackie, and all of the employees at Ace. Also a big thank you to all of the people that purchased mums. We also grew 60 mums for the Lansing FFA that were sold to them at wholesale.
Table etiquette is an important skill to have. Darla Popken, director of the Education Options Program, spent some time teaching and having her students practice table protocol.

Mrs. Schmitt's 7th grade FCS (Family & Consumer Science) Class is learning prep terms with a game called "SPELL My Feet." Mrs. Schmitt described a prep term on how you would prepare an item and then two teams raced each other to spell out the correct food prep term. It was learning in a fun way!
Second graders are enjoying a day at Twin Ponds Nature Center. They are learning about owls and bats, taking a hike, exploring the nature center, and fishing. Thank you to Mr. Moore and Mr. Crayne for hosting us!

To celebrate finishing the book "The Outsiders" the 8th graders had a Greaser vs Soc dress up day today. Here are the top three! Mrs. ten Hoeve even got in on the fun!
Today 7th graders had the amazing experience of listening to and interviewing Lou Arens, a Turkey Valley graduate, and former news anchor who was in the Florida classroom with President Bush when he received the news of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Students heard Lou's story and learned about journalism and interviewing techniques they can use as they work on their own projects.
