This week, Mrs. Wickham's first graders were given the opportunity to go to New Hampton Nursing & Rehab to read with the residents. The kids had a great time and judging by the smiles on their faces, they were happy to see us too!
The first graders enjoyed an interesting presentation from Mr. Monteith as we finished up our Solar System Unit. The students enjoyed the videos and photographs from his experience at the Space Academy. As always, it's awesome to have such knowledgeable resources right here at NHCS!

The Advanced Foods students were asked to create a visually appealing brownie dessert for a new restaurant; by applying their knowledge of plating desserts. The students made their brownies from scratch, wrote a tantalizing description, and demonstrated their plating designs. Please read the descriptions and "like" only one brownie to choose the top design. Thank you for your help. There is no way I would be able to choose a winner!
#1 Birthday Surprise Brownie: This Birthday Cake brownie has a shortbread base with an Oreo truffle middle, topped with delicious buttercream frosting and even more Oreos. These brownies will make your day with all the cheerful colors.
#2 Oreo Brownie Buttercream Delight: This brownie is layered with a homemade brownie batter including dark chocolate with Oreos in the center; topped with an immaculately soft buttercream frosting on the top.
#3 Midnight Brownie: My beautiful brownie dessert is full of yummy Oreos, along with whipped cream and raspberries on top leaving a delicious chocolaty yet refreshing dessert. Enjoy!
#4 Magic Brownie: Experience the magic of our birthday brownie! A fudgie delight baked to perfection! Filled with festive rainbow sprinkles! Each bite is a celebration! It's not just a dessert, it's a birthday wish come true!
#5 Surprise Blast Off: This brownie is a double-layered truffle. The base is a cake mix with sprinkles. The second layer is made out of birthday cake Oreos and cream cheese filling. On top is a layer of vanilla frosting covered in crushed Oreos. It has vanilla ice cream available on the side if you wish to add more sweetness.

Foods II (two sections) started a new unit today all about the dairy industry. The students learned today with a "blast from the past" by playing a game that Mrs. Schmitt invented called: "Guess that Gadget." The students identified objects that had to do with dairy: milk, cream, butter, cheese, etc. They needed to guess what the object was called, who might have used it, what was it used for, is it still used today, and what would be its modern replacement? Mrs. Schmitt brought antique dairy items and the students teamed up in partners and gave it their best shot.
