Advanced Foods Class completed their Beverage Unit. We did a lot of small labs! The students made fresh-squeezed orange juice, cocoa "bombs" with homemade hot chocolate mix, smoothies, orange julius, and lemonade from scratch. They learned about coffee and tea. How to brew it and where it originated and all of the different kinds. They did well on their assignments and tests. Hands-on learning in FCS keeps us hopping!
Our last items to come in that were purchased with grant money were chef coats. 24 Chef coats (6-Red) and (18-White) all in different sizes for our cooking labs. The red chef coat will be worn by the head chef of the day and the rest will be the sous-chefs. Every student will rotate responsibilities for each new lab. We are running our labs as industry standards to help our students achieve their culinary goals.
The 8th graders are performing their speeches this week! Want a chance to hear some of them? Check out our Oratory Showcase night, coming up next Tuesday the 30th at 5pm. We’ll have a number of speakers performing their original speeches in the HS/MS cafeteria! If you’ve ever been out for one, you know how fun it is!

Due to weather concerns, the bowling meet scheduled at Cadilac Lanes for tomorrow has been moved to 11:00 am. Everything is moved back one hour.
Congratulations to the New Hampton Boys Wrestling team on qualifying for the regional team dual tournament. Our team will be traveling to Algona on Tuesday, January 30th for a first round dual with Hampton-Dumont-Cal starting at 6:00 pm. The winner of the first round dual will wrestle Algona for the right to go to state.
Senior Parents:
If your child is planning to attend the University of Iowa or UNI in the fall, they have extended their FAFSA priority date from February 1 to February 15. That does not mean that you cannot submit a FAFSA after that date; the priority date means that that's the date it needs to be submitted by in order to qualify for the maximum amount of financial aid. The priority date for Iowa State University remains February 1. If there are any other changes in priority dates that we receive, they will be posted here.
Miss Vossberg's class has begun learning about animals that live in the coldest places on earth! Today students experienced how 'blubber' keeps animals warm in the freezing temperatures.
