Foods I Class is learning about the six essential nutrients and we started with Carbohydrates. They have learned the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates, their sources, and what it does for their bodies. We "busted" some food myths about cutting carbs to lose weight. 60% of your daily diet should be from carbohydrates and half of those should be from whole grain. They learned to reduce simple processed carbs, like junk food, from their diet to stay healthy. After all of our note taking and discussions the students enjoyed making Cheddar Bay Biscuits from scratch. They said they were even better than Red Lobster's biscuits!

7th Grade FCS Classes made five kinds of smoothies with fresh and nutritious ingredients. They learned how to use a blender and how to mix and taste before serving the smoothies, to see if they needed to add anything for more flavor. Nutritious smoothies are great for a snack or breakfast.

With the projected weather forecast temperatures along with the high NW Winds, it does not appear that these conditions would be good for athletes to run in. With that said, Mason City is cancelling the Girls Track meet for April 2nd.

Our entire school is getting ready to administer an annual school climate and culture survey called Conditions for Learning to students in grades 3-12 This survey administration is required by the state’s plan to meet a federal law called the Every Student Succeeds Act. Our school will conduct the survey on the week of April 15th. All Iowa public school districts will use the Conditions for Learning Survey (Survey) to improve safety, student engagement and the overall learning environment so that all Iowa students have optimum conditions for learning. Our work to improve safety, student engagement and the overall learning environment will have a lasting impact on the future. Please review the attached letters.
