Foods I Class has been learning knife skills. They sliced, diced, and chopped all of the fixings for their omelet lab. They learned how to make a French Omelet and the students in both sections were very successful.

Food Production I Class is trying a new Take-N-Bake Meal for our Chickasaw Cafe. White Cheddar Mac-N-Cheese with Herbed Bread Crumbs. We combined two recipes into one and tried it with and without homemade bread crumbs. We took some samples around to the offices and the final vote was with bread crumbs. We then froze one and will need to bake it and try it from the frozen to baked stage. We will let you know when we have them for sale!

or Senior parents that have students planning to attend college next fall, I wanted to pass along some FAFSA (the Federal financial aid application) information to you. While they are still not sure of the date the application will open (at this point, sometime in December), what they DO advise you to do at this point is for you and your child to create your FSA IDs. This is basically your login information to get into the FAFSA. You, as parents, will need a FSA ID, and your child will also need their own FSA ID. These need to be approved and that can take up to 5 days, so I advise you do this now so that there is no hold-up when the FAFSA does come out. I have attached a screenshot below of the guidelines of if one or both parents need to create an FSA ID, based off situation. To CREATE your FSA ID, go to this link: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch Please make sure that you record/keep track of any FSA ID created, as they can be quite difficult to recover!! Write it down and keep it in a safe place where you and your child can get back to it. Lastly, I am attaching a list of what documents are all needed in order to complete the FAFSA so that everything you need can be collected timely enough for when you're ready to fill it out. Any questions can be emailed to Michelle O'Donnell at m_odonnell@new-hampton.k12.ia.us FAFSA Document: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nE3i8D0GH_8DSwWvq_mior04bDckxIWQ/view?usp=sharing Who Should Create a FAFSA: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wMvxdovXXmZkVxB2L7CBPJ52dMr7cu7V/view?usp=sharing

The High School Guidance Department will be hosting grade-level meetings during parent/teacher conferences this year. Because certain information is more relevant at specific points in the school year, we are going to hold meetings for Seniors and Freshmen during Fall conferences and Juniors and Sophomores will be during Spring conferences. The fall meetings will be held in Mrs. Schmitt's room (the old HS cafeteria on the top level) and are as follows: Monday, October 30th - Seniors from 6-7 p.m., Freshmen from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, November 2nd - Seniors from 6-7 p.m., Freshmen from 7-8 p.m. These meetings are optional and are more for parents to fill you in on grade-level information, but students are welcome to attend if they wish.

Housing & Interior Design I Class chose slips of paper with housing designs. The groups chose which design they wanted to build and went to work. They made an A-Frame and a Greek Colonial. The students then presented the attributes of each house talking about the architectural features.
